What is Non-Surgical Fat Reduction?

From the name itself, it’s the process of removing stubborn fats without undergoing surgery. Now, it’s possible to improve the shape of your body without bearing pain and scars.

A non-surgical fat reduction is a process that involves a selective elimination of fat cells in particular areas of your body.

Considerations

Reasons vary to each person, but it’s important to reevaluate yourself before undergoing a non-surgical fat reduction procedure.

If excess fats cause you discomfort on a daily basis, that’s one thing to consider. Another obvious point is to achieve better appearance without undergoing a painful surgery.

Non-surgical fat reduction procedures make you feel more comfortable after the process compared to other surgical treatments.

However, non-surgical procedures may need multiple sessions to achieve desirable results. Redness and numbness of the treated area may also occur.

Available Treatments

The type of treatment that you should choose may depend on several factors such as the area where you want the procedure to occur. It may also vary depending on the patient’s preferences.

Below are types of non-surgical fat reduction procedures that you want to check out:

  • Cryolipolysis
  • Laser fat reduction
  • Injectables
  • Ultrasound
  • UltraSlim® red light therapy

Cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting®)

This treatment involves a non-invasive procedure which utilizes cold temperatures in breaking down fat cells and reduce its size. With the help of controlled application of cooling, these fats cells are destroyed by freezing.

A specialized device is used to help transmit coldness to your skin and directly freezes stubborn fats. When these fat cells are already frozen, they die and are gradually eliminated from your body through time.

CoolSculpting® might be best for patients who want to reduce fats in the abdomen, hips, and inner or outer thighs. Other areas that can be treated are upper arms, below the buttocks, and lower chin.

The process takes about 35 to 60 minutes. During the procedure, you’ll slightly feel discomfort because of the intense cold being transmitted to your skin. Some of the common side effects are swelling, numbness, and redness of your skin.

Patients who undergo Cryolipolysis usually take 1 to 2 treatment sessions depending on the extent of fats that you wish to be removed from your body.

Laser fat reduction (SculpSure®)

While Cryolipolysis uses controlled coldness, laser fat reduction, on the other hand, uses controlled heat to break down subcutaneous fats.

The fat reduction treatment works by delivering a specific wavelength from a laser device. The emitted light to heat up fatty tissues enough to cause fat cells to break into smaller pieces. The skin is ensured from any damages by a cooling mechanism that runs through during the treatment.

Laser fat reduction is recommended for patients who want to reduce subcutaneous fats in abdomen and flanks area.

The treatment typically lasts for 25 minutes in each area of the body. Although the patient doesn’t feel any pain, he or she may feel a warm sensation.

Injectable Deoxycholic Acid (Kybella®)

Deoxycholic acid is a type of substance that naturally occurs in your body. It’s responsible for breaking down fats for digestion.

By injecting it into your body, deoxycholic acid is directed to break down pocket of fats. Today, Kybella® injections are one of the commonly used injectables and are approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Kybella® is used to reduce fats under your chin. The treatment incorporates multiple injections and takes about 20 minutes. A local anesthetic is applied to target areas before the procedure to minimize your discomfort.

For better results, the treatment typically requires 2 to 4 treatment sessions with a 1-month interval. Bruises, mild swelling and redness seen in the treated area are normal and just a temporary side effect of the procedure.

Ultrasound Fat Reduction

This fat reduction cosmetic treatment allows ultrasound waves to eliminate excess fats by releasing these waves inside your body and let metabolism set in motion. Ultrasound waves immediately break down deposited fats. The energy transmitted to your skin creates pressure, so that fat cells leave the surrounding tissues without any damage.

Ultrasound fat reduction procedure can be used to treat areas such as abdomen and flanks. You may be required to accomplish 1 to 3 treatment sessions with two weeks interval to achieve desirable results.

UltraSlim® Red Light Therapy

Here’s a new FDA-approved non-surgical fat reduction procedure – UltraSlim® Red Light Therapy. Unlike any other non-surgical treatments, this method doesn’t directly eliminate nor destroy stubborn fats. Red light is emitted to your skin with the use of a specialized lamp. This lamp will trick the powerhouse of fat cells to release fatty acids and triglycerides. The lymphatic system then eliminates these freed fat cell contents and are processed by the liver as part of the body’s natural detoxification.

UltraSlim® is designed to reduce fats typically in abdomen and thigh areas. The therapy usually takes about 30 minutes and requires around three treatment sessions to achieve desired results.

New technologies prove that nothing is impossible. With these non-surgical fat reduction procedures, you have a chance to look young and feel confident about yourself with minimal pain.

But bear in mind that your desired results solely depends on your dedication and willingness. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and stable weight is highly recommended whether you undergo a non-surgical fat reduction procedure or not.
